Ashi Curious?

If you've never heard of Ashiatsu, you're not alone.

Whether you're completely new to it or you've noticed it on our menu and wondered what it's all about, this post is for you.

Ashiatsu is a style of massage where the therapist uses their feet to deliver slow, deep, sustained pressure along the muscles of the body. At Blue Buddha, our therapists are trained and certified through DeepFeet Bar Therapy, the gold standard in Ashiatsu education, so you're in skilled, experienced hands. Or feet, rather.

So What Does It Actually Feel Like?

This is the question everyone asks.

Most people describe Ashiatsu as the deepest massage they've ever received, but also one of the most relaxing.

Unlike elbows, thumbs, and knuckles that concentrate pressure into a small point, the broad surface of the foot distributes pressure evenly across the muscle. That means you can receive deep, effective work without the sharp, poking sensation that often comes with traditional deep tissue massage.

Instead of bracing against the pressure, many clients find themselves melting into the table.

In fact, it's not uncommon for people to drift into a deeply relaxed state or even fall asleep while receiving some of the deepest bodywork they've ever experienced.

You Might Love Ashiatsu If:

  • You want deeper pressure that actually reaches the layers of tension you're carrying.

  • You hold chronic tightness in your back, hips, shoulders, or legs.

  • You're an athlete, active adult, weekend warrior, or someone whose body works hard.

  • You find yourself continually asking your therapist for more pressure.

  • You're looking for relief that lasts longer than a day or two.

A Few Things to Know Before You Book

Ashiatsu is performed on a traditional massage table. Your therapist uses overhead support bars for balance, control, and precision throughout the session.

You'll be professionally draped just as you would be during any massage treatment, and the pressure is always customized to your comfort level.

While Ashiatsu is safe for most people, there are certain conditions where another service may be a better fit, including pregnancy, osteoporosis, certain cardiovascular conditions, or recent injuries. If you're unsure, we're happy to help guide you toward the best option.

Ready to Experience It for Yourself?

The truth is, Ashiatsu is one of those modalities that's difficult to fully understand until you've experienced it.

People come in expecting a deep massage.

They leave talking about how relaxed they felt.
